"After an excruciatingly long and painful search with multiple procedures around the world I finally found Dr. Austin at BACD, from scrolling Instagram no less! I began my journey with a plea to the front office staff to be treated by no one but her and after careful consideration was granted my request. I was clear in my initial consultation with Dr. Austin my priorities were progress and pain management, and even though there were some hiccups along the way, I'm glad we stayed the course. Dr. Austin attends conventions about my condition which primarily affects the highly melanated, and even though I've been treated by published specialists before, it's clear her approach is specialized and reflects the care and dedication she has to her patient's overall well-being. She involves students in her practice who hopefully will carry the torch for future generations to receive treatment and guidance from. Thank you, Dr. Austin!"

"I have been a patient at BACD for fifteen years. I trust Dr. Welsh and Dr. Austin--caring, kind, personable professionals who have taught me how to care for my skin so that it appears much younger than my sixty-six years. I have had several chemical peels over the years, and been very pleased with the results, so when I went to schedule another peel and Dr. Austin suggested Fontona Deep, I was ready. I had tolerated the peels well and was not anxious, so declined taking any meds before the procedure. The first step was to apply numbing cream to my entire face and throat for an hour before beginning. The Fotona process is, as Dr. Austin describes it, "spicy." I found the spiciness manageable until close to the eye area and throat, which was eased by inhaling some NO2. After we finished, my face and throat were covered with medication and balm, wrapped with gauze, and secured with netting. I easily drove myself home. For the next four nights I applied the provided balm, gauze, and netting. I had the procedure on a Monday afternoon and that Friday felt comfortable spending the weekend out of town. Given that one's skin looks pretty fierce at first, I was surprised at how quickly the redness dissipated, even though I had an idea from the photos that Dr. Welsh had taken chronicling her own procedure's recovery process. After two-and-a-half weeks my skin's appearance is much improved from pre-procedure, with only a small amount of redness remaining at my hairline and throat. I could not be more pleased with not only the Fontona results, but the results of fifteen years of excellent skincare guidance from Drs. Welsh and Austin. I love my skin. Thank you!"

"I started coming to BACD about a year ago for concerns related to aging and sun damage. I am 60 years old. I had Botox and Juvaderm treatments before, but I was interested in newer products that were being used by Dermatologist's, currently. I have exclusively seen Dr Austin. She is a top teaching Dr. with so much knowledge, experience, and expertise in skin related care and issues. I have had zero issues with booking and confirming my appointments. I always receive emails and texts, letting me know of my appointment status. When I arrive, the reception staff is always kind, efficient and helpful. In December I decided to take GLP1 to lose 30 lbs. I started at 180lbs. I am now at 152 lbs. I was told, by friends, and the media, that that much rapid weight loss could affect my skin around the neck, jawline, and face. I wasn't too worried, though because I knew that I had already been practicing a very good skin care routine and excellent filler and Xeomin results, based on my visits with Dr. Austin. I am completely thrilled that my skin, especially on my face and neck, is an excellent shape! I am on a maintenance routine with filler and Xeomin at this point. I highly recommend Dr Austin and BACD. She is kind, gentle, and very experienced and knowledgeable. All the staff are helpful and wonderful at what they do!"

I followed her instructions and my results are absolutely amazing in a few short weeks!! Most of the browns spots are completely gone, especially the big brown one on the lower left cheek! She even told me I didn't need the follow-up laser treatment anymore and recommended a new and simple maintenance regiment. I am very impressed with her expertise, and everyone at the office is very kind and professional. Also, great care by Clarisse, Mary and Katie! "This review is long overdue! Dr. Austin is incredible at treating rosacea!! Dr. Austin has been life changing for me and my skin. I found her online from searching frantically for someone for years in the Bay who had experience working with rosacea. Rosacea started for me in my early 30s, what felt like out of no where during grad school. After trying many other things, including strictly cutting out foods that were irritating I was still having intense rosacea breakouts. Dr. Austin took pictures, explained what was happening and we went over my skin routine. I learned how there are different types of rosacea, she explained what can irritate it (which can include natural oils!) and then she gave me a very specific skin care routine with products. I saw results almost immediately after using sticking to the topical routine. I recently saw her after 3 years of sticking to my regimen and my skin has greatly improved. I flare maybe a few times a year with stress but it will usually go away that day with combo ointment meant for rosacea. I have even seen lines on my forehead go away with one of the topicals, an added bonus! She is also very encouraging, has a warm bedside manner. I've been seeing dermatologists since I was 12 years old because of acne and I've also moved around the US and Europe. Dr. Hui Austin is honestly a miracle worker. She is always kind and empathetic and I would not entrust my skin to anyone else with some of the procedures I've undergone to "refresh" myself. She helps me with my perioral dermatitis as well as rosacea, and checks me for skin cancer yearly because I worshipped the sun in my younger years. My skin looks amazing. I would say that my acne scars have been improved by 80% after multiple sessions of tca cross and laser genesis. Most of my ice pick scars have filled in. "I visited Dr. Austin for a skin consultation after receiving a recommendation from one of my friends who sees Dr. Austin for Botox (Xeomin) injections and to review & remove any suspicious moles/freckles and review skin damage on my neck. Her office staff are very friendly & helpful. After washing my face (they provide makeup pad removers, facial wash & a hair band), photos were taken including one with a camera to determine sun damage. Dr. Austin has a very positive, glowing energy about her & was very easy to speak with about my skin concerns. After a full review of my skin & my skincare regimen, I got 20 units of Xeomin in my forehead & removal of a mole that was progressively getting larger on my upper lip. Thankfully the lab report indicated that it was benign. I visited again about 10 days later for additional freckle removal & treatment for sun damage on my neck, as well as a check in for my Botox injections to see how it settled in. The Botox looked great & my skin was smooth. I've healed up from my 2nd visit & my skin looks great.Her strongest recommendations is to always wear sunblock (I wear 2-3 layers on my face but I forgot to apply on weekdays to my neck when I was living in Hawaii which resulted in 15 years of sun damage while driving )."

"I found Bay Area Cosmetic Dermatology via Yelp. I made my first appointment and had to wait for a month and a half to get in which was over a year ago. I had been to so many Dermatologists, Cosmetologists, clowns, rip offs you name it, this wait was so worth!! I had melasma due to my pregnancy, very bad acne scars. When I saw Dr Austin, I bombarded her with all my bad experiences and kept asking for a chemical peel, sounds so funny now:-) She brought me back to earth and came up with a plan and took her time to explain me about my issues first and then the steps of her plan. "Dr. Austin has worked wonders for my skin. I'm currently 26 years old and have suffered from acne since I was 12. In the pre-Dr.Austin days, my acne would flare up before my period, resulting in 2-4 painful bumps in the chin/cheek areas. It was never bad enough for me to try more serious treatments like Accutane, but the combination of active/healing acne with mild rosacea made me feel like I couldn't go out without several layers of foundation. As a teenager, I tried everything for my acne: salicylic acid spot treatments, benozyl peroxide cleansers, tea tree oil, and clindamycin peroxide (which worked amazingly well for a few weeks until it stopped working completely). In my adult life, I came to accept acne as a recurring monthly struggle, even though I continued to be insanely envious of other Asian women with effortlessly beautiful skin. Earlier this year, my acne suddenly got worse. Instead of annoying (but manageable) monthly spots, I experienced several large, painful cysts along my chin that stayed for weeks. My skin was so bad that makeup didn't help: foundation would flake off almost instantly. I decided to finally see a dermatologist...and luckily I found Dr. Austin! Dr. Austin put me on a treatment consisting primarily of spironolactone and tretinoin. She simplified my skin routine from 10 items to a manageable 4. I can't begin to describe how much my skin has improved. Both spironolactone and tretinoin take a while to kick-in, but after approximately 1 month into the new routine, I started to see dramatic results. No more breakouts, plus my skin texture has improved by so much - coworkers and friends have all commented on the glow! The new routine from Dr. Austin has seriously been a god-send. "Dr. Austin is a freaking magician. I came in to see her for the Melasma I developed on my face due to high doses of estrogen/hormones I had to take from egg freezing / IVF treatments. I've been trying to treat this for years (oxygen treatments, laser treatments, supplements, vitamins, expensive creams/serums, diet) with no long-term results. It all changed when I saw Dr. Austin, and on top of putting my Melasma into remission, my skin condition improved dramatically, and randomly some post surgical scars faded due to the medication. Before my skin was prone to getting blocked pores, but now now it's silky smooth. I don't remember the skin on my face looking this good. What I like about Dr. Austin most is she is research fiend and knowledgable about everything to do with skin - she's tested every treatment/product/medication combo possible and has found one that works. I have been a patient of Bay Area Cosmetic for more years than I can remember (think back to Laurel Village when the office was the size of a closet!!!). Dr. Kathleen Welsh and Dr. Andrea Hui Austin are the consummate professionals when it comes to dermatology and I trust my face and my skin to no one else. For over 15 years I saw Dr. Welsh exclusively but in recent years, and as a result of a more robust practice, I have transitioned to being a patient of Dr. Austin. Through regular visits I am able to maintain a rejuvenated appearance with a clear complexion. Dr. Austin has a tremendous understanding of the bone structure and muscle placement of the human face. Her skill in administering delicate injections is something to behold. The results to my skin are subtle but with noticeable improvements both in appearance and texture. I never leave the office looking 'done', rather I leave feeling refreshed and more youthful whilst at the same time looking natural. On many occasions after receiving injectables I have been able to attend work functions the very same day. Minimal bruising, no down time and a natural appearance. I have read through many of the reviews for Bay Area Cosmetic, in particular, the 1 and 2 star reviewers who mention long delays in the waiting room. "Dr Austin is the absolute best! She transformed my skin! I started seeing her a little under a year ago for stubborn and persistent acne and melasma, as well as scarring from years of cystic acne. On the first visit, she promised me she could get my skin clear and completely rid me of the dreaded melasma. I was a bit skeptical (I'd seen 3 other dermatologists for the melasma and nothing I had tried thus far made any difference). She got me on a regimen of chemical peels, medication and topicals and I'm SO happy to report that my skin is clear! I went to see Dr. Austin for my stubborn, life long problem skin, which started at age 11 with cystic acne, and morphed into constant hives, adult acne and rosacea subtype 2, and 4 in my early 30s. I had been seen by countless doctors about my skin including 4 different, highly rated SF dermatologists before Dr. Austin to try to treat my rosacea/acne/hives, including the UCSF autoimmune dermatology clinic. I had been prescribed creams, done lasers and changed my diet, but nothing made any difference at all. On my first visit, Dr. Austin assured me she was 100% confident she would cure my rosacea and fix my skin. CURE. That's a pretty big word in the medical community, and I admit I was skeptical. She prescribed me a few creams, some pills to take, and we did two laser treatments. "I'm 46 and have been planning on visiting a dermatologist for a few years to have an increasing number of broken veins and milia sorted. Dr Hui was recommended by a friend and I finally made time for an appointment. What a revelation. It transpired I have rosacea, not broken veins, and a combination of a monthly tablet and daily cream have basically cleared it up (this has also had the side benefit of reducing irritation I had in my eyes which is also caused by rosacea, so double win). I had eczema on my face in my 20's and have always been very wary of new skincare regimes after finding a handful of over the counter creams that didn't aggravate it. Dr Hui prescribed and provided samples of a proposed regime which within days cleared up some inflammations and made my skin look 10X better. I've now had 2x laser for light resurfacing and to sort a few veins that became visible when the rosacea cleared. It requires a few days working from home/weekend (I look a bit like a chipmunk for 4 days), but the impact on my skin texture and tone is incredible. I've dropped all but a touch of concealer (vs full foundation) and there is a noticeable improvement in small wrinkles as well. All in all, I wish I'd done this 10 years earlier!! Dr Hui has a fabulous manner, is super efficient, and works with your schedule in terms of treatments/what you can incorporate into your working life. I cannot recommend her too highly."

"I started seeing Dr. Hui (now Austin) in June 2018. So far, I'm very satisfied with the result. I suffered from acne as a teenager which lead to many scars on my face. I have tried so many different treatments including dermabrasion, CO2 laser, chemical peels, photo facial, micro-needling, etc. in the past 20 years to improve the large pores and scars. However, some of the treatments made my skin even worse than before and also left more scars on my face. My skin became extremely sensitive and was prone to scarring after break out. The micro-needling helps to improve some shallower scars but not the deep ice pick scars. I was so discouraged but I don't want to live with scars for the rest of my life. I'm so lucky that found Dr. Hui. She outlined a treatment plan for me. She recommended some skin care products, Laser Genesis and TCA Cross. At first, I was skeptical but I wanted to give it a last try. At the consultation appointment, Dr. Hui performed the TCA Cross on 5 test spots. She did not charge me extra for the test spots other than the consultation fee. So far, I had 2 treatments of Laser Genesis and TCA Cross. I've been following her face regimen and using all the products she recommended. I still need to do a few more sessions but I can see a great improvement in my skin. Most of the scars that have been crossed are much shallower and smaller than before. There are a few ice pick scars have completely filled in. I couldn't believe it because those scars were on my face for 20+ years. TCA cross has shown me the most improvement on my scars of anything I have done before. The patches on my skin are gone and my skin is much firmer. I will confine this treatment until all my scars are filled in. Please keep in mind that the scars may look worse when the scars first fall off but they will continue to fill in and heal over time. The process can take from 2-6 months after the treatment. "I have struggled with severe acne for my whole life and have spent thousands of dollars on proactive, x-out, bioré, natural solutions like witch hazel, tea tree oil, etc. None of these products worked for me and some of them made my skin severely dry, red, or caused my hyper-pigmentation to be more noticeable. I was losing hope that I would ever have clear skin until I came across TCA peels (trichloroacetic acid) on youtube, I saw that there was a lot of positive reviews as well as horror stories , but I felt like I was out of options so I decided to set up a consultation at Bay Area Cosmetic Dermatology, I didn't feel like my skin could get any worse so even if the skin peel didn't work, I felt that It was still worth the risk. When I first arrived, it was a 250 dollar fee for new patients and they looked at my skin and offered several products for a skin care regiment and they told me that my skin issues were caused because my body produced a little more testosterone then a normal woman. They prescribe me spironolactone to help prevent further extreme break outs and tranexamic acid to help with my hyper-pigmentation, after one month I noticed a severe decline in break outs. Before I was on these medications I was getting 5 - 10 new pimples every week plus back acne, after being on these medications it was like 1 or 2 every month. After getting my acne settled, we then started to work on my hyper pigmentation, I had expressed that I wanted a TCA peel but Dr.Austin told me that with my skin tone a TCA peel would be too extreme and might remove the melanin from my skin. I didn't want to ruin my skin tone but I also didn't want the dark spots, Dr.Austin then recommended that I get a less deep peel and we decided to go with either a lactic acid peel or a glycolic acid peel. When I received my first peel I noticed dramatic changes. I still had a lot hyper pigmentation but it was very different from before. I am now 7 peels in and I am very happy with my results! I wish I would have come here sooner, it would have saved me thousands in skin care products that didn't work for me. Each peel I received was 250$, and worth every penny. "I took a appointment for brown sun spots on my skin. I was late for my appointment about 20 minute's.I called the front desk and told them I will be late.They are ok with it. Waited for 10 min in the lobby. Then Sandra(nice person) took a few pictures of my face and asked about my skin condition. I was miserable the last few years with my skin condition, and felt bad because my skin didn't look good. I tried dozens of products on my own, and I was also misdiagnosed by another dermatologist. I had developed a really bad case of melasma on my cheeks, upper lip and I had gotten into a bike accident a year before. When I made an appointment they had asked me if I had a preference as to who I wanted to see. I told the receptionist that I had Asian skin so if I could get someone that is familiar with treating common Asian skin issues that would be fantastic. I was scheduled an appointment with Dr. Hui.At my first meet with Dr. Hui she confirmed that I did indeed have melasma and that my next step was to start getting chemical peels 4-6 weeks apart. Wow. Holy smokes! So far I've received 3 chemical peels and the melasma is almost gone. It's at the point where I am able to cover it up with just foundation. Yippee! At my most recent appointment I received my first laser treatment with Mary. I had a 1pm appointment and was seen quickly to start the numbing process. I am one of those people that benifit from the extra time with the numbing cream so I appreciate that the ladies got me started immediately. I was so numb that I barely felt a thing. I was incredibly nervous for the first subcision treatment & Dr. Hui made me feel so comfortable and walked me through the process very slowly. I'm now on my 3rd treatment & can honestly say I am seeing an INCREDIBLE difference in the acne scarring. Dr. Hui also prescribed me tretinoin to use topically in between my treatments. "My husband began PRP hair treatments here, he's had two sessions so far and is due for his third. We are both happy with the results and how well the Dr. and her assistants take care of us. Dr. Hui is so nice and always takes her time with us both. She administers the product to the scalp and pays close attention to areas that are worse than others. My husband and I both feel that his hair has gotten thicker, darker and less limp and frail than it was before. "This review is long overdue for DrHui, who shows me how to love my skin again. Her treatment is very effective in clearing my severe cystic acne and correcting uneven skin tone. I have had 6 v beam laser sessions with Dr Hui in past 6 months, and my skin has transformed. I do not have to worry about switching products, looking for DYI face mask, or avoiding foods I like to eat. Her treatment plan is individualized, which I m sure of, and for me I simply follow her face regimen, use all products she recommend, and go to VBeam appointment every 4-6weeks. "Eternally grateful to have found Dr. Hui - I have battled back acne for over 30 years and over that time have seen different dermatologists, have been prescribed oral antibiotics such as erythromycin and doxycycline, have had 3 rounds of Accutane in the late '90's, early 2000's, and tried different prescription creams. Despite all of these efforts, acne and scarring have continued to persist. So after receiving a product sample at a school fundraiser, and looking at their site, I figured I would try yet another approach. After an initial consultation with Dr. Hui and buying many expensive but effective skin products, I started to see a significant improvement in the acne...finally! "Dr. Hui is in a league of her own! - My entire experience from the moment I walked in far exceeded any expectation I could have ever imagined. Dr. Hui is truly an artist! I have been to so many plastic surgeons and dermatologists trying to correct the shadows that I see on my forehead but NOBODY was able to correct them until I came to see Dr. Hui. My forehead is very small and it was fairly flat, with multiple recessed ridges that appeared as dark shadows. I would get botox to prevent the appearance of wrinkles but nothing seemed to erase the darkness around my temples and the depression in the center of my forehead that seemed to negatively exaggerate all of my other facial contours. "I had unwanted filler from a previous provider that I wanted gone. Dr. Hui is really skilled in this area. She flawlessly removed the areas that were too full in just one sitting. I had went to 3 different Dr's prior to finding Dr. Hui, but none were able to actually dissolve the filler. She has a lot of experience on the dissolving product Vitrase, how your body responds to it and how to inject it effectively. A month later I saw her again. Additionally, two years ago I had an intensive peel and spots on the backs of my hands treated, and last year, a light peel. Although it seems counter-intuitive, I am now paying less per visit than I did ten years ago; I don't need as much! I also am not trying to look decades younger, only slow the external manifestations of aging. This goal is exactly what Dr. Welsh continues to achieve. The work is subtle, yet I am always met with disbelief when I tell people I am fifty-eight.
