What is Ultherapy?

This non-invasive, FDA cleared procedure turns back the clock by kickstarting lethargic collagen, slowing the inevitable cheekbone slide and tightening up the jawline. Not only do our patients love Ultherapy for the face but they also feel more comfortable wearing their favorite lower cut tops after treating those pesky crease lines of the neck, chest (aka the décolletage).

Ultherapy is a top choice among our male patients as well because it requires zero downtime and gives progressive results over the course of several months.

Ultherapy utilizes ultrasound energy to discreetly improve the firmness of your skin by encouraging your body to produce more of its own collagen and elastin leading to natural looking results with no downtime.

Bay Area Cosmetic Dermatology is proud to have been the first to offer this innovative technology in San Francisco. We often use this treatment along with other skin rejuvenation procedures, such as laser skin resurfacing or an injectable to leave the skin looking younger and more refreshed.

Experience Matters

When choosing a provider to perform your Ultherapy treatment, it is imperative to work with someone who has vast experience with the procedure, such as our team of skilled, registered nurses. Bay Area Cosmetic Dermatology has been providing Ultherapy treatments since 2010.

We are also the number one provider of Ulthera in the United States and we are dedicated to providing you with the best possible results.

All of our nurses regularly attend advanced Ultherapy training to ensure our treatments are customized specifically for each patient's unique needs and goals, allowing for a more ideal outcome. What People Are Saying

From Mary Krempa, RN at Bay Area Cosmetic Dermatology,

“I love how precise and customizable the Ultherapy treatment is. It’s wonderful to have the ability to target deep levels of the skin exactly and later see deep lifting and tightening. Each time I‘ve personally had an Ulthera I feel like I’ve won 5 years back on my skin.”

The number of sessions needed depends on your skin condition and aesthetic goals. Generally, most patients who still have a good skin tone can have significant results with a single treatment. For others, we may recommend several treatments to produce the desired result.

Am I A candidate for Ultherapy?

Collagen is a natural, connective tissue composed of protein that the body produces to aid in hydration, elasticity, and firmness. As the aging process ensues, the natural production of collagen in the body begins to diminish, causing the firmness and tightness in the skin to decrease and give way to looser skin. The purpose of Ultherapy is to boost your natural collagen production in order to restore the firm quality of the skin associated with youthfulness, allowing the body to produce thicker, more healthy skin. Ultherapy and other non-invasive tightening procedures are best for patients who have mild to moderate skin laxity or those who would prefer to avoid surgical skin tightening (aka face lifts).

Our Ultherapy Technique

When you arrive, you will relax in a procedure room while one of our providers will prepare the skin being treated, which can include the use of a numbing agent. Some patients find Ultherapy to be mildly uncomfortable. To ensure your comfort, we have several options for managing including a pain reliever or anti-anxiety medication which our doctors may prescribe prior to the treatment. We also offer ProNox, a safe, reliable alternative:

  • ProNox is a a quick onset, 50% Nitrous and 50% oxygen pain management system
  • Nitrous oxide has been safely used for decades in dental offices
  • Patient administered means you respond to your own level of pain and/or anxiety
  • Generally metabolized within minutes of discontinuing, so you are able to regain complete mental and physical function within 15 minutes after use (no groggines!)

During the procedure, a handpiece that emits ultrasound energy waves will glide over your skin delivering energy to the layers that produce collagen and elastin. Depending on how many areas you're having treated, an Ultherapy session can last anywhere from 30 minutes - 2 hours. It's not uncommon for skin to be mildly pink following the treatment due to the light pressure of the handpiece. If uncomfortable, you may use cold packs and take non prescription pain medication to decrease pain and inflammation. Ultherapy works on the deeper layers of collagen and there is no abrasion associated with the treatments so you may apply makeup directly after the treatment.

What To Expect After Treatment

Following your Ultherapy treatment, our team of registered nurses will provide you with all necessary aftercare instructions, but you should be able to return to your normal daily routine. Ultherapy typically won't give you visible results right away. You will need time for your skin to heal and adjust after the treatment session. With the boost of collagen, your skin will firm in about 6 – 8 months.

Additionally, you may need to attend a follow-up appointment in order to have your results evaluated and your treatment plan adjusted as necessary. Typically, most patients opt to have a repeat treatment around 12 months after their initial session.
