EMFACE is the next generation of facial contouring, being the only device to simultaneously tone muscle and treat facial skin in an easy 20-minute treatment. The EMFACE was created by the makers of Emsculpt NEO, Emtone and Vanquish which have been overwhelming popular treatments in our San Francisco based Body Clinic. When BTL Aesthetics released EMFACE to the market, both Dr. Kathleen Welsh and The Body Clinic practice manager, Roxanne Krempa, knew it would be a device our patients would love.
What Is Emface?
EMFACE is the only needle-free, hands-free procedure that simultaneously treats facial skin and muscles in an easy 20-minute session, done in a relaxing environment in one of our Body Clinic treatment rooms. EMFACE utilizes the simultaneous application of Synchronized RF and HIFES™ technologies to affect facial skin, muscles, and connective tissue. The end result is less wrinkles and more lift.
How Does EMFACE Work?
EMFACE utilizes patented, hands-free, applicators to simultaneously emit both Synchronized RF and HIFES™ energies. Synchronized RF remodels & smooths skin by heating the dermis and increasing the levels of collagen and elastin fibers. HIFES™ technology restores & elevates support facial tissues by selectively contracting muscles and increasing density & quality of muscle structure.
EMFACE clinical studies showed on average:
- an increase in collagen by 26%
- doubled the amount of elastin in the tissue and
- an increase in resting muscle tone by 30%.
- The effect of these technologies leads to less wrinkles by 37% and more lift by 23%.
What areas can be treated with EMFACE?
EMFACE applicators are intended to be applied over the forehead and the cheeks. Effects of EMFACE are visible in overall facial appearance.
Who is the right candidate for EMFACE?
Anyone who is looking for less wrinkles and more lift may be a candidate for EMFACE. Patients with metal implants, permanent filler, or implanted medical devices such as pacemakers may not be able to treat, and those with active skin conditions such as cystic acne, eczema or recent sunburn in the area may need to delay treatment. Does EMFACE really work?
Yes! EMFACE and the embedded Synchronized RF & HIFES technologies have been clinically tested for safety and efficacy through nine clinical studies. Additionally, our providers will guide you through before and after photos that showcase the efficacy of EMFACE.
How is the EMFACE procedure performed?
The EMFACE procedure is simple and easy. You will lay down and relax in one of our Body Clinic treatment rooms while the applicators are applied over the treatment areas for 20 minutes. One of providers will be there with you to ensure that you are comfortable. During the treatment you will feel muscle contractions along with a heating sensation which is comparable to hot stone massage. Once the procedure is completed, you can apply one of our favorite products, SkinMedica TNS Advanced+ Serum or Neocutis Bio Gel Firm, sunscreen, and then return right back to your day!
Is there any prep needed?
Come to your appointment with a freshly washed face. If there is significant hair present, we ask that you shave before you arrive. Hydration is also important for optimal results. Increase your water intake 2-3 days prior to the procedure.
What is the treatment protocol?
We recommend a series of 6 treatments, once a week although we can work with your schedule. For the best results and to truly transform your face over time, maintenance treatments should be done every 4-6 months.

About UsHow long does it take to see the final result of the EMFACE procedure?
Optimal results typically take 90 days after your final treatment, however it is possible that you may begin to feel tangible results before then. Each person is unique and their final outcome will be as well. We unfortunately cannot predict exactly when or how much result you will see. Additional treatments or services may be needed to get you to your goals.
Is there any downtime?
EMFACE is a non-invasive procedure that requires no recovery or downtime. You can return immediately to your normal activities.
What if I HAVE deep wrinkles?
Everyone can benefit from the EMFACE treatment. EMFACE works on visible facial wrinkles and treats deep facial skin layers and selected muscles so it can also be used as a preventive procedure. However, EMFACE may not be the only service needed to treat all of your concerns or meet your specific goals. Our experienced providers at Bay Area Cosmetic Dermatology will put together a comprehensive treatment plan uniquely designed for you.
Can I have EMFACE therapy if I have injectables?
Yes! Our providers will advise you on the best timing for treatment depending on your specific plan.
