"I went to see Dr. Austin because I had increasingly more brown spots on my face. It turns out I have melasma and sun damage. She took the time to explain the science and reasoning for the bootcamp regiment she recommended. (I had just wanted to go in and laser off all of my spots instantly!) I followed her instructions and my results are absolutely amazing in a few short weeks!! Most of the browns spots are completely gone, especially the big brown one on the lower left cheek! She even told me I didn't need the follow-up laser treatment anymore and recommended a new and simple maintenance regiment. I am very impressed with her expertise, and everyone at the office is very kind and professional. Also, great care by Clarisse, Mary and Katie! I also appreciate how responsive Dr. Austin and the office is with email questions. Also, replenishing products is easy and convenient with their online store. This is the place to be for your dermatologic needs!"

"Had a great experience with Dr. Austin! She clarified where my product regimen was lacking, prescribed a medication to mitigate this dry patch that always shows up in the same spot on my chin. "I've been seeing Dr. Austin for nearly four years now and she is without a doubt the best dermatologist in SF. Dr. Austin is brilliant and ahead of all the latest, cutting edge treatments, warm and collaborative, and extremely perceptive. I go a few times a year for Botox and Clear + Brilliant treatments (mini laser to heal sun damage). My face tends to be very expressive when I talk, so before I started seeing Dr. Austin, I would accumulate frown/squint lines easily. I also have an active lifestyle and spend a lot of time outdoors in the sun. With the minimal number and dosage of treatments each year, my forehead wrinkles have disappeared, sunspots are gone, and my skin looks so healthy, smooth, and glowing to the point that I'm often told I look over a decade younger than my actual age. Dr. Austin is passionate about helping her clients look their best, and her positive, delightful energy pervades the clinic. She gets to know you as a patient and as a person, so the treatments are tailored uniquely for you, your lifestyle, and your goals for appearance. "I have been to many top dermatologists over the years, and Dr. Austin is most certainly among the very best. She came highly recommended by one of California's most well known plastic surgeons for her unique ability to keep patients looking natural and better, younger (in my case) versions of themselves. I am now in my 60s, and have done various laser treatments, Botox and fillers at BACD. Looking at the before/after photos from when I started seeing Dr. Austin three years ago vs. now is remarkable - my skin looks 10 years younger than it had. She is passionate about her work and her patients, and very conservative in what she does. She has full knowledge of the wide breadth of treatments the practice offers. I was advised to expect up to three treatments to remove all the damage, but the first application yielded such dramatic results, I did not need any additional ones. After the initial application, I looked like I had chicken pox, but after the scabs healed, my skin looked radiant! I would definitely trust Dr. Austin. She understands Asian skin (she is Asian herself) and is very experienced. KZF"
"I have been seeing Dr. Austin for almost 3 years now for acne scars treatment and my skin is totally transformed. People think I look at least 10 years younger than my age. I would say that my acne scars have been improved by 80% after multiple sessions of tca cross and laser genesis. Most of my ice pick scars have filled in. Recently I also had Fraxel laser to improve the shallow scars , black spots, and overall skin texture. Dr. Austin is amazing and she cares about her patient. She would call me after the procedure to make sure that I was doing fine. She also responded very quickly on all my questions related to post-procedure. "I am not exaggerating when I say that Dr. Andrea Hui Austin is a LIFE CHANGER. I've been seeing her for almost two years now for treatment of my rosacea and acne and skin is clearer than it's ever been, clearer than I ever hoped it would be. I first started seeing Dr. Austin in 2019, a few months after I turned 31. I'd been diagnosed with rosacea in middle school and had otherwise had fairly clear skin until I reached college. In college, I started breaking out more and more frequently until my acne was basically chronic. Some people in my family had late-bloomer acne, so I told myself it would probably just clear up as I got older, and I tried to take the best care of my skin that I could in the meantime. I tried every OTC treatment under the sun, went on different diets, and saw a series of dermatologists who put me on a range of topical medications and oral antibiotics. Nothing made much of a difference and by my late 20s I'd was so close to giving up and resigning myself to having bad skin for the rest of my life, although it made me feel miserable.That's when I realized that the one thing I hadn't tried was seeing a dermatologist who specializes in treating rosacea. I did some googling and Dr. Austin's name came up again and again, so I scheduled a consult. My expectations weren't high, given how little luck I'd had before. But Dr. Austin completely blew me away in the consult. Not only was she able to explain why my rosacea was causing these breakouts, but I was blown away by her empathy; she started the appointment by asking me to tell her about my history of rosacea and acne and after I went through the litany of things I'd tried she said, "I'm so sorry you had to go through that." It made me tear up to feel like someone cared and understood how much having bad skin can take a toll on self-esteem.She started me on a routine of oral medication and new topical skincare products, and did an excellent job of answering all my questions and explaining how each product or medication worked and why it was necessary. I noticed a difference in my skin within weeks, and once the breakouts were more under control we began a series of laser treatments to help tame the rosacea. As my skin continued to heal and improve, the treatments became less frequent, and I'm now at the point where I only have them a few times a year. My skin has healed enough that she's also able to address the scarring I have from acne and, honestly, that's a milestone I never thought I'd reach until I started working with her. She's continued to be a thoughtful and kind person, celebrating the milestones with me as my skin healed, remembering details about my personal life, and engaging me in conversation during the treatments; I feel like she really cares.As a bonus, the whole BACD staff is competent, professional, and friendly. They keep things running smoothly, call/email back quickly, and have a very flexible auto-ship program that sends my topical products to me four times a year. BACD has done a sterling job of adapting to the pandemic--they've put up signage, spaced out appointments, created physical distance in the waiting room, and changed their payment process so you pay in the treatment room. I've noticed some other places get lax with these types of measures as the pandemic has gone on, but BACD has been incredibly consistent, which I appreciate.If you have rosacea and acne, Dr. Austin is your gal. She's truly and completely changed my skin in a way I never thought possible. "I strongly recommend this practice. Dr. Welsh, Dr. Austin, and Dr. He are so brilliant and help you take back control of your skin. I've been with this practice for 4+ years. In addition to the results they achieved for my skin, it's the staff and the providers who keep me coming back. I appreciate the level of professionalism and consideration BACD has for all of their clients.The doctors are so smart and truly take time to understand your problem, and recommend the right treatment to deliver the fastest possible solution. I struggled with acne my entire life; in my first consultation with Dr. Austin she recommended a daily topical (tretanoin) and specific treatments (e.g Hydrafacial and Laser to break up redness!). Ever since then my skin improved drastically. I hardly recognize myself in the mirror today. It's truly incredible how small changes can deliver drastic results. Recently, I met their newest physician Dr. Steven He. He is LOVELY and a true dermatology prodigy! All MDs at this practice will provide you with the information you need to treat your skin. "Dr. Austin is an incredible dermatologist. I have been working with her for over a year to improve my acne scars. She is thorough and kind. In our initial consultation, she mapped out what my 2 year plan would look like. She always makes me feel so comfortable, and I have seen amazing results with her recommendation of subcision and TCA cross peels. I plan to start laser resurfacing as well. Love her work, and coming into her wonderful office!"
"Dr. Austin is a freaking magician. I came in to see her for the Melasma I developed on my face due to high doses of estrogen/hormones I had to take from egg freezing / IVF treatments. I've been trying to treat this for years (oxygen treatments, laser treatments, supplements, vitamins, expensive creams/serums, diet) with no long-term results. It all changed when I saw Dr. Austin, and on top of putting my Melasma into remission, my skin condition improved dramatically, and randomly some post surgical scars faded due to the medication. Before my skin was prone to getting blocked pores, but now now it's silky smooth. I don't remember the skin on my face looking this good. What I like about Dr. Austin most is she is research fiend and knowledgable about everything to do with skin - she's tested every treatment/product/medication combo possible and has found one that works. She is super prescriptive about the products and medications I should use and the skin care regiment she recommends for the treatment period (e.g. when I should wash my face, what kind and what time I should apply skin care treatments, when I should take the medication), which worked for me because it didn't leave me second guessing on what I should do. I've seen a lot of dermatologists but until I went to Dr. Austin, I didn't realize that my skin care regiment was all wrong. From start to finish - the treatments did put a dent in my bank account and they don't accept insurance, but for me - it was worth it. It's actually cheaper in the long-run because rather than treating the symptoms, Dr. Austin treats the root cause.So grateful for Dr. Austin and her staff!"

"Anyone who’s struggling with acne problem, please come to see Dr. Austin! My skin was so much better after the first month visiting here, and now I can walk outside with my bare skin and feel confident about it (of cause I’ll still need my eyebrows). Dr. Austin was very patient at explaining the two types of acne I had and recommended a new skincare regiment and prescription pills targeting at those different problems. I never thought washing my face with just water in the morning can have such a big improvement to my skin. If you come to see Dr. Austin, I’m sure she’ll recommend even more skincare tips and treatments that will help to improve your skin! Beside Dr. Austin, all the people working here are so nice to chat with. Mary who did my Laser Genesis, Claire who did my Hydro Facial. "This review is long overdue. If I could give Dr. Austin 1000 stars, I would. I went to see Dr. Austin for my stubborn, life long problem skin, which started at age 11 with cystic acne, and morphed into constant hives, adult acne and rosacea subtype 2, and 4 in my early 30s. I had been seen by countless doctors about my skin including 4 different, highly rated SF dermatologists before Dr. Austin to try to treat my rosacea/acne/hives, including the UCSF autoimmune dermatology clinic. I had been prescribed creams, done lasers and changed my diet, but nothing made any difference at all. On my first visit, Dr. Austin assured me she was 100% confident she would cure my rosacea and fix my skin. CURE. That's a pretty big word in the medical community, and I admit I was skeptical. She prescribed me a few creams, some pills to take, and we did two laser treatments. The results speak for themselves. 6 months later, I'm off the Rx pills and creams, and am now just maintaining the beautiful results. This is hands down the best my skin has looked in my entire life since childhood. My husband tells me every single day how beautiful my skin is. It feels amazing.And the best part? Dr. Austin caught my hypothyroidism FROM JUST LOOKING AT ME. At my first visit she said "your thyroid is low, go to see an endocrinologist and have it checked." And she was right. I was put on thyroid meds and am feeling better than I have in 10+ years. On top of all this, she is extremely professional, runs on time, and is contagiously happy and optimistic. "I'm 46 and have been planning on visiting a dermatologist for a few years to have an increasing number of broken veins and milia sorted. Dr Hui was recommended by a friend and I finally made time for an appointment. What a revelation. It transpired I have rosacea, not broken veins, and a combination of a monthly tablet and daily cream have basically cleared it up (this has also had the side benefit of reducing irritation I had in my eyes which is also caused by rosacea, so double win). I had eczema on my face in my 20's and have always been very wary of new skincare regimes after finding a handful of over the counter creams that didn't aggravate it. Dr Hui prescribed and provided samples of a proposed regime which within days cleared up some inflammations and made my skin look 10X better. I've now had 2x laser for light resurfacing and to sort a few veins that became visible when the rosacea cleared. It requires a few days working from home/weekend (I look a bit like a chipmunk for 4 days), but the impact on my skin texture and tone is incredible. I've dropped all but a touch of concealer (vs full foundation) and there is a noticeable improvement in small wrinkles as well. All in all, I wish I'd done this 10 years earlier!! Dr Hui has a fabulous manner, is super efficient, and works with your schedule in terms of treatments/what you can incorporate into your working life. I cannot recommend her too highly."

"I started seeing Dr. Hui (now Austin) in June 2018. So far, I’m very satisfied with the result. I suffered from acne as a teenager which lead to many scars on my face. I have tried so many different treatments including dermabrasion, CO2 laser, chemical peels, photo facial, micro-needling, etc. in the past 20 years to improve the large pores and scars. However, some of the treatments made my skin even worse than before and also left more scars on my face. My skin became extremely sensitive and was prone to scarring after break out. The micro-needling helps to improve some shallower scars but not the deep ice pick scars. I was so discouraged but I don’t want to live with scars for the rest of my life. I’m so lucky that found Dr. Hui. She outlined a treatment plan for me. She recommended some skin care products, Laser Genesis and TCA Cross. At first, I was skeptical but I wanted to give it a last try. At the consultation appointment, Dr. Hui performed the TCA Cross on 5 test spots. She did not charge me extra for the test spots other than the consultation fee. So far, I had 2 treatments of Laser Genesis and TCA Cross. I’ve been following her face regimen and using all the products she recommended. I still need to do a few more sessions but I can see a great improvement in my skin. Most of the scars that have been crossed are much shallower and smaller than before. There are a few ice pick scars have completely filled in. I couldn’t believe it because those scars were on my face for 20+ years. TCA cross has shown me the most improvement on my scars of anything I have done before. The patches on my skin are gone and my skin is much firmer. I will confine this treatment until all my scars are filled in. Please keep in mind that the scars may look worse when the scars first fall off but they will continue to fill in and heal over time. The process can take from 2-6 months after the treatment. Please be patience. Dr. Hui and NP Mary are amazing. I highly recommend Dr. Hui for those who are suffering from acne scars."
"Dr. Austin saved my skin (and my life!)I started seeing Dr. Austin in May, when I was really frustrated and at a breaking point after dealing with severe cystic acne for quite some time. It got so bad that even leaving my house was a struggle. After a quick consultation, Dr. Austin got down to business. She wrote out a clear, easy-to-follow, thorough skincare routine that required topical products & an oral prescription. I left feeling very hopeful for the first time in forever. By July, my skin had cleared up to the point where I felt comfortable leaving my house again with minimal makeup. Once we stopped the breakouts, I did two rounds of V-Beam Laser to address my scarring. Most recently, I went in for my first round of Laser Genesis. It is now October, and I can finally say that I am 100% makeup free! Hardly any remaining scars, no active cysts. Clear, glowing skin thanks to Dr. Austin and her team, who gave me my confidence back. I now have coworkers coming up to me, complimenting my skin and asking what I do for it. "I took a appointment for brown sun spots on my skin. I was late for my appointment about 20 minute's.I called the front desk and told them I will be late.They are ok with it. Waited for 10 min in the lobby. Then Sandra(nice person) took a few pictures of my face and asked about my skin condition. I waited for another 10 minutes which is totally fine with me.Then Dr.Austin came in examined my skin condition and told me the do's and dont's about taking care of skin.She suggested me chemical peeling and laser genesis. Prescribed some creams for the face. I am thinking about getting laser . Overall had a good experience with Dr.Austin . Probably,I'll be back in six weeks for a follow up and with updated review."
"Dr. Austin transformed my skin in a matter of months! I was diagnosed with rosacea 6 years ago and had tried just about everything to treat it. "I went to Bay Area Dermatology because a few of the girls in my office recommend it. I had developed a really bad case of melasma on my cheeks, upper lip and I had gotten into a bike accident a year before. When I made an appointment they had asked me if I had a preference as to who I wanted to see. I told the receptionist that I had Asian skin so if I could get someone that is familiar with treating common Asian skin issues that would be fantastic. I was scheduled an appointment with Dr. Hui.At my first meet with Dr. Hui she confirmed that I did indeed have melasma and that my next step was to start getting chemical peels 4-6 weeks apart. Wow. Holy smokes! So far I've received 3 chemical peels and the melasma is almost gone. It's at the point where I am able to cover it up with just foundation. Yippee! At my most recent appointment I received my first laser treatment with Mary. I had a 1pm appointment and was seen quickly to start the numbing process. I am one of those people that benifit from the extra time with the numbing cream so I appreciate that the ladies got me started immediately. I was so numb that I barely felt a thing. Definitely one of the easiest laser procedures I have ever done."
"This review is long overdue for DrHui, who shows me how to love my skin again. Her treatment is very effective in clearing my severe cystic acne and correcting uneven skin tone. I have had 6 v beam laser sessions with Dr Hui in past 6 months, and my skin has transformed. I do not have to worry about switching products, looking for DYI face mask, or avoiding foods I like to eat. Her treatment plan is individualized, which I m sure of, and for me I simply follow her face regimen, use all products she recommend, and go to VBeam appointment every 4-6weeks. I have seen big improvement on my skin after my 2nd session, and been very happy since then. "I have been seeing Dr. Welsh (who was initially recommended to me by my primary care physician) since 2007 for fillers, and more recently, Botox, between once and twice a year. Additionally, two years ago I had an intensive peel and spots on the backs of my hands treated, and last year, a light peel. Although it seems counter-intuitive, I am now paying less per visit than I did ten years ago; I don’t need as much! I also am not trying to look decades younger, only slow the external manifestations of aging. This goal is exactly what Dr. Welsh continues to achieve. The work is subtle, yet I am always met with disbelief when I tell people I am fifty-eight. (I should add that I have been using Retin-A since I was thirty, and Dr. Welsh says this makes a huge difference.)Since Dr. Hui has come on board I have seen her once for fillers, with the same excellent results. "I cannot speak highly enough of Dr. Hui!When I first saw her I was suffering from rosacea and as a result, very sensitive skin. I couldn't use any over the counter products like face wash or moisturizer. I also had a lot of tiny red blood vessels that made me look red all the time. And I always had at least one zit at any given time.Dr. Hui took the time to explain why this was all happening and what she was going to do to help. "First of all, I want to thank Dr Hui, who has transformed my skin. I have rosacea/acne/eczema (and some other stuff...). I am a doctor myself, and I had tried everything. I had been to numerous dermatologists for lasers and prescriptions creams. I did my research, and I felt like I was following the most up-to-date medical guidelines for my skin and still nothing was getting better. As my skin got worse, I tried Eastern medicine, accupuncture, and regular facials. I was spending too much money and time, but beginning to feel like I wanted to hide because of how bad my skin had gotten. When I read the reviews, it just seemed too good to be true. Within 2-4 weeks, I saw an improvement: the bumps were gone, the redness was minimal, and the scaling just disappeared. It’s been 2.5 months, and my skin just keeps getting better and better. And I’ve even noticed that I’m getting my glow back. I know it’s daunting to come to a dermatologist, and it can be expensive. This is worth it! I have been to numerous dermatologist and estheticians in multiple states and have spend upwards of $5,000 before coming to Bay Area Cosmetic Dermatolgy and seeing Dr. Andrea Hui. As soon as Dr. Hui came in the room she knew exactly what I needed to fix my skin. She and along with her awesome, very polite and super knowledgeable assistant, Ariana, will service your skin needs in an unparalleled manner. I am all about one thing, which is results. "Dr. Andrea Hui is an absolute miracle worker! I came to Dr. Hui extremely frustrated and defeated because my skin was the worst it has ever been - I had acne all over my chin and cheeks and red scars everywhere. Prior to coming to Dr. Hui, I tried everything to get rid of my acne including different dermatologists, several elimination diets and too many harsh skin care products that wouldn't clear up my skin but would just dry it out. I was referred to Dr. Hui by a friend who had been seeing her for a while and had completely cleared up her skin. I was extremely reassured after my first appointment with Dr. Hui as she was confident that she could help clear up my skin and I completely trusted her because I had seen her results on other people. She put me on a new skin care regimen (that I will never change because the products are amazing) and started me on v-beam laser to help fill in the acne scars. "Dr. Hui completely transformed my skin and I cannot recommend her more highly! I have had rosacea for more than 20 years. In that time I have seen countless dermatologists (including some of the "best" in NYC and SF) and experimented with dozens of skincare products and prescriptions. The results have always been minimal and often made my face even redder and more irritated. This led to a general skepticism of dermatologists and feeling that the rosacea was just something I would have to live with. I decided to try V-Beam treatment, which led me to Bay Area Cosmetic Dermatology (again, skeptical about the potential outcome). "I have struggled with acne and acne scarring since sophomore year of high school (I am now 20). No matter what I tried and who I saw I just couldn't get my acne under control. My skin only worsened when I went off to college. I was so insecure about my skin that I would try to avoid going out in the sunlight or in bright lighting. I even tried to stop looking at myself in mirrors because it made me so self conscious. My skin was affecting my social life and desire to see people in a negative way and was a constant source of stress and anxiety (which only made my acne worse). That is, until I began working with Dr. Hui in the summer between my freshman and sophomore year of college. In the year since meeting Dr. Hui my acne and scarring has improved dramatically. I am now more confident and excited about going out and seeing people. Dr. Hui started me on a very low dose of Accutane and a nighttime retin-a. Her goal was to clear up the acne first and then work on the scarring underneath. When the acne began to clear up, Dr. Hui started doing V-Beam lasers on my scarring. This reduced the red spots on my skin that I had had for years. Before the V-Beam I couldn't remember the last time that I looked at my face and it wasn't a red, blotchy mess. Last week Dr. Hui performed a Fraxel laser on my skin to even out the texture and alleviate more of the scarring. While it has only been a week since the procedure, the results are very noticeable. My skin is much smoother and has less marks from scarring and will only continue to improve over time (according to Dr. Hui). This is the best my skin has looked since starting high school and it is all thanks to Dr. Hui and her MAs Mabel, Chrissy, Isabel, and Euridice. I am now going back to school for the spring quarter with a newfound confidence in my skin. I will continue on the low dose of the Accutane and the nighttime retin-a and hopefully my skin will clear up more every day. In addition to the actual work that she did on my skin, Dr. Hui and Mabel, Chrissy, Isabel, and Euridice were incredibly warm and accommodating. "Doing Me - Botox, Belotero, & VBeam for Variety of Concerns - San Francisco, CA - It's been a few months since I was summarily broken up with by my former partner of 14 years and right before Valentine's was in an emotional place to focus on ME. I had noticed over the last year that my rosacea was getting worse and the under-eye area was getting noticeably "deeper" and not as full as it once was. In addition, having been raised in the sun, I have had a history of skin cancer (basal & squamous) and wanted to find a Dermatologist who could address the medical & my cosmetic needs. After asking friends who they recommend for a Dermatologist, I made an appointment with Dr. Hui. I could not be more pleased. I've seen Dr. Hui twice and I'm thrilled with my skin elasticity, glow, lift, lightness, and overall appearance! The great part is that I don't look "pulled back" or "plastic" or radically different in any way. I look like me and no one has said to me that I look like I've had "work done." The comments that I've had from friends and family is that I look like I'm glowing and no one knows what I've done! My first visit in February with Dr. Hui was to address the areas on my forehead and eye area with Botox. I had zero bruising and it didn't hurt! I expected the injections to hurt from what I had seen on tv but it didn't! I also had Belotero to fill in the deep recesses of my under eye area and immediately I saw the difference! For more 'intensive' procedures like laser, Dr. Hui and the lovely Medical Assistants do their utmost to minimize any discomfort with icepacks, numbing cream, and prednisone. I've had no bruising or discomfort from any of the procedures I've undergone. While there were needles involved with the Botox and Belotero, I didn't feel any pain whatsoever which really surprised me because I bruise very easily. On my second visit, Dr. Hui addressed my pre-cancerous spots, removed a number of skin tags, and I under went the VBeam laser treatment to my entire face to address the redness due to rosacea. Dr. Hui once again was very upfront about the procedure, costs, why she recommended the VBeam, and made sure that I was very comfortable and numb before the laser treatment. The laser treatment went actually faster than I thought it would and she did my entire face and it didn't hurt as much as I was expecting it to. What I appreciate about Dr. Hui is that she is a genuinely caring person and is passionate about her work which comes through. Dr. Hui isn't just a 'pusher' of products which I presume could be 'easy' for a Dermatologist. Dr. Hui takes you, your face, and issues/concerns into consideration and doesn't want to 'fix what's broken'. I have more treatments planned to address the redness of my skin and she'll continue to monitor my pre-cancerous spots and I look forward to seeing her again. I highly recommend seeing Dr. Hui for all your skin needs. Not only is she a great physician but she's really a very approachable and caring person."
"Innovative Keloid Scar Treatment - San Francisco, CA - I was introduced to Dr. Hui in San Francisco through Dr. Welsh's practice. I learned that Dr. Hui had extensive experience treating keloids in Brooklyn and was working on a new and innovative treatment. I was very interested in learning more about this procedure as I have been battling numerous keloid scars on my face, chest, and back for several years now. She performed a type of interlesional cryotherapy where the keloid was frozen from the inside. This was my first time trying this procedure so I initially tried it on one of the lesions. After 2 weeks we saw the progress and decided to perform the same procedure on 2 more lesions. After about 4 months, 2 treatments on 1 lesion and 1 treatment on the other 2 lesions, I am happy to say that they have decreased significantly (about 85-90% in size). The redness is still there and there are still some raised areas which are now being treated with steroid injections and laser beam therapy.I hope this procedure will give hope to others afflicted with keloids that not only affect one cosmetically, but actually physically hinder life."
