Book NowAbout Laser Tattoo Removal
Old or unwanted tattoos don't have to be permanent anymore. Advanced laser technology, such as the Syneron Candela PicoWay system used at Bay Area Cosmetic Dermatology in San Francisco, extracts tattoo ink from the from the face and body, gradually fading the tattoo over a series of treatments. Depending on the size and colors used in the tattoo, the procedure process may vary, but it is generally a quick, safe procedure that does not produce scarring. If you have been considering tattoo removal, schedule a consultation with one of our board-certified dermatologists, our physician’s assistant, or one of our registered nurses to learn more about the treatment.
What to Expect
Prior to your treatment one of our medical professionals will test the laser on a small spot of the tattoo. We do this to see how your specific tattoo reacts to the laser and determine the best settings to use. If we determine that the laser will be effective on your tattoo, we will schedule a full treatment. Prior to your treatment a registered nurse or medical assistant will clean the area of skin where the tattoo is located. The laser will then pass over the surface of the tattoo with a pulsed light. Depending on the size and color of your tattoo you may have a very short treatment time or an extended length of time to cover the area. Most patients feel mild discomfort or stinging and a topical anesthetic cream may be applied to reduce the pain. Once the laser treatment is over, an ointment is applied to the skin with a bandage to keep it protected. Please note that this process may need to be repeated multiple times to be effective.
Bay Area Cosmetic Dermatology Reviews
They offer a lot of great services and products. Staff is friendly and knowledgable (they've all tried most of the treatments!). I had a tattoo removed with thoughtful care from their team and good results. They are not pushy but always open to offering other services. It is pricey, but a very welcoming and convenient office.
Dr. Welsh is absolutely great. I was so nervous about my tattoo removal, but she totally calmed my fears, and also provided me with anesthetic to ease the pain. I've had 4 visits with her so far, and I have been more and more impressed on each visit.I would highly recommend her to anyone in need of a cosmetic or just a regular old dermatologist."
Great dermatologist - When I lived in the Bay Area Dr. Welsh was my dermatologist of choice! The first time I came to her office was for tattoo removal when I was in my 20’s...it was a total success. Years later I am 100% tattoo ink free thank to her. It took time but was well worth it. I have also used her office for the V-beam laser procedure which removes dilated blood vessels. If you have rosacea, or a...
I come here and see Mary Krempa for a pretty large tattoo removal on my neck! Mary is super knowledgable and kind and was able to numb the entire area so I didnt feel a thing. She uses up to date techniques and a few different lasers and is super up front and honest about what to expect from the process. Ill be coming in every 4 weeks and im excited to get this process done. Glad i chose to go with bay area dermatology and not lazer away. Thanks Mary! 10/10
There is no need to go anyplace else or see any other dermotologists. Dr. Welsh knows what you need before you even ask for a particular treatment. In many cases, her suggestions are not what you might intend, but better and more effective. She is truly at the top of her field in cosmetic dermatology. Dr. Hui is the best at treating and rectifying problem skin and preventative maintenance. I will no longer see any other doctor for my skin concerns. Their entire staff is deeply knowledgable in all areas of every treatment they offer. I can't say enough about this practice.Treatments I have had: Coolsculpting, IPL, Accutane, Ulthera, V-beam, tattoo removal

Other Considerations
When multiple treatments are required (typically four to fifteen), they will be scheduled four to eight weeks apart. The visibility of the tattoo will decrease with each laser treatment session. Many patients experience some swelling, redness, and sensitivity to the area treated. You may feel a sunburnt or itching sensation. Skin crusting is also a common side effect. Patients should be very careful not to damage the area by scratching or picking the treated skin.
