Dr. Kathleen Welsh’s Bay Area Cosmetic Dermatology practice is highly-equipped to perform skin rejuvenation and laser procedures that address and treat common and complex skin afflictions from acne treatments to laser tattoo removals and the latest wrinkle reduction techniques. Dr. Welsh is renowned for her mastery of injecting skin fillers, such as Juvéderm and Restylane, as well as wrinkle relaxers, like BOTOX and Dysport. Dr. Welsh is recognized as one of the first physicians to offer Juvéderm Voluma injections after participating in the clinical trials and is also one of a handful of Allergan’s Black Diamond status providers (the highest level in the country). Dr. Welsh is also a leader and top innovator in non-invasive body contouring, including CoolSculpting and laser hair removal. When she is not practicing, Dr. Welsh enjoys educating others on skin care by participating in lectures on general dermatology and cosmetic conditions.
Prior to establishing her private practice, Bay Area Cosmetic Dermatology, in 2000, Dr. Kathleen Welsh served as the director of cosmetic dermatology and as the chief of dermatology for The Permanente Medical Group’s Kaiser Foundation Health Plan in San Francisco. During that time, she established and directed The Permanente Cosmetic Dermatology program, which is now used as a model for similar programs nationwide.
Dr. Welsh has been selected as a Top Doctor by Castle Connolly every year since 2014 and named as one of the "Top 10 Dermatologists West" by Aesthetic Everything, the first social network for aesthetic professionals.
When Dr. Welsh is not administering treatments at her practice in San Francisco, she is often providing training and lecturing other professionals and students on the mastery of cosmetic dermatology, sharing her passion for skin and patient care.
Dr. Welsh lives in San Francisco with her husband, an emergency physician. She enjoys being in nature, skiing, and kite boarding. Dr. Welsh is active in the TIBA Foundation, a non-profit organization that supplies quality healthcare to people living in rural Kenya. She is also an ardent supporter of She Can, a non-profit organization that provides college education for women in Rwanda, Cambodia, and Liberia. Dr. Welsh just completed another Skin Cancer Take a Hike, an annual event sponsored by the American Academy of Dermatology that helps to fund free skin cancer screenings and more in underserved communities.
Dr. Kathleen Welsh is a highly-educated physician, receiving training from some of the most prestigious institutions in the country. Dr. Welsh received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and then completed an internal medicine residency at the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine. She completed her residency in dermatology at Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Welsh is board-certified in both internal medicine and dermatology.
