The threadlift procedure was developed to fill an unmet need in cosmetic dermatology - instant, noninvasive lifting of deep mid-facial skin with natural-looking results. While neuromodulators (such as Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin) smooth wrinkles and dermal fillers such as (Juvederm and Restylane) replace facial volume, threadlifts lift the skin without surgery or significant downtime. At Bay Area Cosmetic Dermatology, our board-certified dermatologists use one of two types of threadlifts, depending on the needs of the patient. Both types of threadlifts use absorbable sutures to tighten and lift the skin on the face and neck. NovaThreads are made of absorbable polydiaxanone (PDO) while Silhouette Instalift by Thermi uses Poly/Glycolide/l-lactide (PLGA) cones to grab and hold facial tissue in an elevated position. Both PDO and PLGA have been used safely for many decades in different surgical specialties, and, although newer in the United States, the threadlift procedure has been performed for many years internationally. Threadlifts are injected into the skin, instantly lifting it with no cuts or incisions. Then, in the four to six months needed to fully absorb the threads, your skin undergoes controlled healing, repairing and building collagen where the threads were inserted. The results are immediate, with little to no downtime!
"I went to Bay Area Dermatology because a few of the girls in my office recommend it. I had developed a really bad case of melasma on my cheeks and upper lip. When I made an appointment they had asked me if I had a preference as to who I wanted to see. I told the receptionist that I had Asian skin so if I could get someone that is familiar with treating common Asian skin issues that would be fantastic. I was scheduled an appointment with Dr. Hui.At my first meet with Dr. Hui she confirmed that I did indeed have melasma and that my next step was to start getting chemical peels 4-6 weeks apart. Wow. Holy smokes! So far I've received 3 chemical peels and the melasma is almost gone. It's at the point where I am able to cover it up with just foundation. Yippee! At my most recent appointment I received my first laser treatment with Mary. I had a 1pm appointment and was seen quickly to start the numbing process. I am one of those people that benifit from the extra time with the numbing cream so I appreciate that the ladies got me started immediately. I was so numb that I barely felt a thing. Definitely one of the easiest laser procedures I have ever done."- J.C. / Yelp / Dec 02, 2017
"I needed a same day appointment as I had an emergency. These guys came thru with flying colors. Very satisfied with their service. Totally customer service oriented, unlike a lot of other places I have patronized in this category. I will return."- J.M. / Yelp / Nov 14, 2017
"Dr. Andrea Hui is a very well trained surgeon and cosmetic dermatologist. She provides excellent care and is very committed to her patients. I would recommend her to all my friends and family."- M.L. / Yelp / Oct 24, 2017
"This review is about Dr Hui- the only person I trust with my face. She is kind and generous with her time, and has an eye for detail. She patiently listened to all my concerns before the procedure and I always leave her office not just looking my best but feeling my best too! Thank you Dr Hui. Cheers, Hillel-"- H.S. / Yelp / Oct 20, 2017
"Dr Hui is not only an amazing dermatologist but an amazing person as well! I trust her completely and know I'm in good hands whether she's helping me clear up some eczema or filling my lips!"- K.K. / Yelp / Oct 19, 2017
WHAT TO EXPECT
Prior to the threadlift procedure, one of our board-certified dermatologists will consult with you to determine what type of threadlift to use, how many to inject, and where to place the threads for best results. The day of your treatment one of our dermatologists will inject the treatment area with lidocaine prior insertion of the threadlift. The anesthetic allows the threads to be quickly inserted with no discomfort. The entire procedure takes about thirty to forty minutes depending on the number of threads used.
The most common but temporary side effects of the threadlift procedure include: swelling, bruising, and inflammation. However, most patients find that there is minimal downtime following their procedure and they are able to resume normal activities immediately.
